£23,247 RAISED FOR MND CHARITY
During the last 12 months, a number of activities at Cleckheaton Golf Club have raised a massive £23,247 for The West Yorkshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Each year’s Club Captain chooses a charity for members and visitors to contribute towards. After the diagnosis of Club Member Phil Long and the passing of his friend, Club Captain Adrian Jowett chose the MNDA as his charity, along with Club President Colin Hargreaves, and the response was remarkable.
Member donations and the very enjoyable MNDA Golf Day at Cleckheaton contributed hugely to the amount raised. Twenty-Three teams took part in the Golf Day, which was won by Andy Mear and his team.
Andy then acted as auctioneer and raised a significant amount of money, with many lots supplied by members.
Sue Starkey, the Branch Secretary at the MNDA’s West Yorkshire Branch was extremely thankful for the £23,247 contribution and said “All donations to the branch go directly to help and support people and their carers living with MND in the local area.
Monies and donations received enable us to provide, among other things, funding towards specific items of equipment, quality of life and carers’ grants. We also support our National Office in their research and care programs”.
Adrian was very gracious during the presentation of a cheque to the MNDA at the Club’s end of season event and explained how he “would like to thank everyone who contributed to this huge total and hopefully this money can continue to make a real difference to the lives of those suffering with the disease and their carers.
