CAPTAIN'S REPORT - MAY 2024

So hopefully the weather has changed and we are now at least, getting some golf in – roll on a hot sunny summer! I really enjoyed my various winter guises – Noah; Jonah and the best; Captain Pellow (Wet Wet Wet!!!).

The Greens Staff are working very hard to get the course into the best shape but please bear in mind they are doing jobs now they would normally have done in a few weeks ago, so some of the detail is not as we would like at this time of year. With the expected weather forecast though, we are confident the next two weeks will see big changes.

Competition golf has started for some – not quite yet for the Scratch and 8/15 Men’s teams.

Our Seniors have started their season with successive home victories over Oulton Hall & Woodhall Hills, 5/1 & 4/1 respectively. They now have four successive away matches. All fixtures displayed on the Seniors’ Noticeboard in the Locker Room. For more information contact Steve Drake.

The Rabbits’ Section’s season got underway on Thursday against Hollins Hall with Captain David Holmes playing in the middle slot for the first time in 48 years!! Having played his first Rabbits match, which I played in, in 1976. They won 4 & 2 with Captain Holmes winning his match 5 & 4 – wily old fox.

After a long-wet winter, the Ladies were keen to start their matches. Sadly, they were knocked out in the first round of the Annodata, away at Wolley Park. It was close with 1 win, 2 halves and the other match going to the 18th, losing overall 3/2. The B Team got off to a flying start with a 6½ v ½ win at home to Bracken Ghyll, but losing their next home match against last year’s champions Otley, 4/3.

Lady Captain Helen Lambert would like to thank members for a fabulous day hosting our first ‘Lady Captain’s Day for 7 Day Members’ competition. The weather was good and she raised a fantastic £680 for her charity Alzheimer's UK. Thank you to everyone who generously donated and congratulations to Aaron Simmons winning with 43 pts. Thank you to the Ladies for a great spread on the day.

I am sure you will have all seen the plans for the drainage works on the first hole – we have now given the formal go ahead to the Company – we are just waiting for a confirmation of dates etc.  We will keep you advised.

Happy Golfing
