CAPTAIN'S REPORT - JUNE 2024

Time now seems to be flying by, and before we know it, it will be October and time for a new Captain to suffer the weather!!!

In the meantime, my Captain’s Day 8th June went very well. Course was very good especially in the circumstances, heavy rain the night before (no surprise) – Paul apologized about the slow greens!!! Everyone playing thought they were fast! It was an excellent turnout with 150 playing golf and over 110 people enjoyed the evening celebrations.

I was overwhelmed with the generosity of members who brought raffle prizes and then bought tickets to win them back raising over £1300 for my charity The Forget Me Not Trust which helps terminally ill children and their families. We have previously raised £800 from other events and close to £2000 from Mark Gibson’s Just Giving page for his upcoming hike up Kilimanjaro. If anyone still wants to contribute follow the link.

My thanks go out to too many people to mention, but thank you all of you, especially my wife and family.

We are now well into the golf season and let’s hope it continues for a while.

The First Team have now played 3 matches 2 wins and a draw sees them top of the table at the moment with nearest rival Shipley at Cleckheaton this week.

The Annodata team had a great win away at Drax on Sunday 16th June and are looking forward to a home draw next time out.

The 8/15s have played 3 and won 2, losing 6-2 away at South Bradford then beating them 5-3 at home, before a great result 7-1 at home to Keighley last Friday.

Rabbits' Captain has sent out a separate report and last Friday saw a successful Rabbits Vs Ladies Friendly team event.

Seniors have had a run of 4 successive away fixtures, defeat at Howley Hall was followed by wins at Woodhall Hills & Horsforth before defeat at Oulton Hall. To date 18 players have represented our club.

The Ladies’ White Rose Team have won their first 3 matches - Alwoodley home and away and Elland away.

Ladies' B Team have played 4 matches with 3 wins and a loss so need to win our last 2 matches to have a chance of being in the final again. As mentioned above the Ladies enjoyed a great social golf afternoon last Friday playing with the Rabbits. Hopefully it can go in the diary as an annual fixture.

Happy Golfing
