CAPTAIN'S REPORT - JANUARY 2024
This is my first formal report as your new Captain and what an honour it is to hold this position after being a member for over 23 years, I still can’t get over the shock and sense of pride at being asked.
Since my 'Drive In', the weather has been awful and we have played very little golf. Hopefully, that will be behind us soon and we can look forward to some proper golf in 2024, when the drives will be straight, the fairways will run, the greens will be receptive and many, many putts will be holed.
At the Gentlemen’s dinner on Friday 10th November, I announced my new Vice Captain, Mr. Phil Langdale, Phil is a longstanding member of the club who, has been on Council before and chaired various committees including Competitions & Handicaps and Health & Safety, I’m looking forward to working with Phil and wish him well in his year as Vice-Captain.
Sadly, the Men’s Scratch Team were relegated last year, so I am looking forward to a very successful year for them (and of course all our teams) and a swift return to the top flight.
From 1st April, there some amendments to the World Handicap System. Myself and others are shortly to attend a seminar and have already been in some online webinars. Once we have finished the training, we will share with you what we've learnt. But feel free to google the changes and familiarise yourself with them.
For those that don’t know, my Charity for the year is Forget Me Not Trust in Huddersfield which is a hospice that supports terminally ill children and their families. If your ball finishes in either of the bunkers on the 17th, please put £1 in the box on the bar. I am hoping to arrange some sort of event during the year and we have already raised £400 from the Gent’s Dinner. Feel free to contribute at any time.
As the year progresses, I am more than happy to receive any feedback or suggestions, especially the constructive kind! It is your club and those of you who know me or have contacted me before know I will always do my best to help, point you in the right direction or if needed, let you know why we can’t action what you have asked.
Finally, I would like to wish the Lady Captain Helen Lambert and the Rabbits’ Captain David Holmes, all the very best for the year ahead.
Once again, a Very Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year to you all.
Steve Passey
Club Captain
