CAPTAIN'S REPORT
As the golfing season draws to a close, it is a pleasure to look back on a year defined by camaraderie, friendship and golf along the way.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved in the daily operations of the Club. Whether professional staff or dedicated volunteers, each individual works tirelessly with the best interests of the Club at heart.
On a personal note, the highlight of my year was being appointed Captain of this prestigious Club. It is an honour to serve alongside our Lady Captain, Tina Newton-Beaumont and my Vice-Captain, Brian Connacher. I would also like to congratulate Mr. Mark Vertigans on becoming Vice President; I am sure you will all join me in wishing Mark the very best for his upcoming term.
Our greens staff have worked exceptionally hard this year, resulting in the course and greens being in the best condition for a long time. However, the current weather presents significant challenges. We kindly ask that you continue to support the team by strictly adhering to the designated routes; the fairways and approaches have been roped off for vital maintenance reasons.
The Grange Moor Brass Band and Carol Service on December 7th was a delightful evening for the attendees. We extend our gratitude to Colin Hargreaves for generously sponsoring the Band and to Craig and his team for the delicious, mulled wine and mince pies.
The Children’s Annual Christmas Party on December 14th was a resounding success. Many thanks to Glennis Travis, the organiser and her team of elves who all contributed to the day being a resounding success. Glennis was supported “behind the scenes” by the Ladies Section, David Holmes played the special role of Santa, Richard Carmichael as Rudolf and the Captain as the Naughty Elf, whilst Craig and his team kept the Children fed and watered with tasty lunch boxes. Despite the Naughty Elf causing a minor delay for Santa, Rudolph ensured he arrived safely!
We are especially grateful to Phil & Helen Lockwood for providing the children’s entertainer, who was so well-received that he has already been booked for next year! It was wonderful to see children, parents and grandparents enjoying the festivities.
Special thanks go to Nick Munslow for organizing the Christmas Greensomes competition. It was a well-supported event and we offer our congratulations to the winners:
1st Place: R. Lowe & B. Kirk,
2nd Place: C. Britton & M. Gaines
3rd Place: C. Kimberlin & M. Spivey, 4th Place: K(arl). Austerfield & J. Harris
The Captain’s Quiz Night continues to be a popular fixture. These evenings would not be possible without the hard work of Phil Langdale, Tina - Lady Captain and Jackie Barraclough. Please check the posters in the Clubhouse for the date of our next event.
Members are politely reminded that the wearing of golf shoes and waterproofs is strictly prohibited within the main Clubhouse (19th and 20th). We thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our club standards.
In closing, I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Kind regards,
Phil Lockwood
Captain
