CAPTAIN'S REPORT

CAPTAIN'S REPORT

I have to admit, I’m not exactly hoping for rain, but our Head Greenkeeper Paul is desperate for it. We’ve fed the Tee Areas and watered them, but nothing settles them better than a bit of rain.  Funny how 12 months ago, we just wanted the rain to stop!

However, I think you will agree that the course is shaping up very well and it looks like it will be in top condition this season.

By the time the next Captain’s report comes out, the team matches will have started. So, here’s wishing the Juniors, Seniors, Rabbits, Ladies and Men’s teams all the best for the coming season and let’s bring home some trophies (or promotions!)

The Winter League finals were held last Sunday. Congratulations go to Andy Mear and Jamie Lavin for once again edging out as Champions. Commiserations go to Scott Metcalfe and Rob Knight who were just beaten final.

Also, Steve Drake and my substitute on the day, Steve Passey, came an admirable third place with Chris Allen and Adrian Richies in fourth place. Those that have played in the Winter League will agree that it has been a great competition throughout the winter and superbly organised by Brian Connacher. The atmosphere and buzz in the clubhouse on a Sunday lunchtime, after the morning’s golf, is something else.

There were new winners in the Captain’s Quiz last month. Terry Ryan, Nigel Barker and their wives won with a good score on a night when I thought it was more difficult than usual. The Play Your Cards Right was a rollover again, with the next cash prize being £110!

We have a guest Quiz Master for the next one on the 24th of April. Gary Marlow has said he would like to help and sort a quiz for us. I’m looking forward to having a night off and testing my own general and music knowledge. So bring your friends and family and have a good evening!

It’s a 7.30pm start, £2.50 per person, maximum 6 per team and there will be food available for a small fee.

Finally, now the handicap qualifying season has started, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a successful season getting your handicaps down and enjoying your golf.
