CAPTAIN'S REPORT

Last week, we were out in t-shirts, and this week, we needed four layers and woolly hats; a clear sign that spring is just around the corner! The course is drying out nicely, and before we know it, handicap season will be upon us once again. We are also now seeing definition in the fairways which is testament to the hard work that Paul and his team have been putting in.

UPDATE ON THE 11TH HOLE POND

The pond on the 11th is currently an eyesore due to a leaking liner. Unfortunately, replacing the liner isn’t a viable option.

After careful consideration, the Greens Committee has decided that the best course of action is to fill in the pond. When funds permit, new bunkers will be added - one in front of the green and another on the corner by the trees. However, the pond filling work can only be carried out once the ground is firm enough for machinery, meaning it will likely take place towards the end of summer.

In the meantime, to improve the appearance of the area, we plan to lay artificial grass and plant a few shrubs. We understand this is only a temporary fix, but we appreciate your patience, and we’re confident the result will be worth the wait. We are also looking at a way of keeping the pond filled with water through the summer using the streams around the course.

The Captain’s monthly quiz returns on Thursday, March 20th, starting at 7:30 PM and finishing around 9:15 PM. Come along with your family and friends and put your general and music knowledge to the test! Remember it is £2.50 per person to enter and a maximum of 6 people per team. Plus, don’t miss your chance to win cash in Play Your Cards Right, which currently stands at £100! Food will be available on the night, so if you’re planning to eat, please remember to bring cash. We look forward to seeing you there!

The volunteers have been busy again, replacing the tiles in the Gents locker room showers after the flood, and a few other little jobs. A big thank you to Phil Lockwood and his team.

I played on Sunday morning and I had to repair at least 4 or 5 pitch marks on most greens. This is our golf course, and we all expect great greens in the season, so please look after them now and REPAIR YOUR PITCHMARKS! I know most of you do, but even if you repair yours and you see another, then please make it good.

Finally, the Ladies section are holding their annual Easter Raffle for MacMillan Cancer Support. The prizes look beautiful, so please give generously and hopefully you will end up with a lovely basket of chocolate goodies.

Thank you and looking forward to warmer weather.
